The National Autistic Society has officially launched its general election campaign, calling on all political parties to commit to a comprehensive plan for improving the lives of autistic people across the United Kingdom.
The campaign, titled Change the Conversation, highlights the systemic failures that often leave neurodivergent people without adequate support in education, health, and social care.
According to the charity, the current system is failing to meet the basic needs of the more than seven hundred thousand autistic people in the country.
The manifesto includes demands for shorter waiting times for assessments, better training for frontline professionals, and an end to the inappropriate detention of autistic people in mental health units.
The charity emphasizes that a society that works for autistic people is a society that works better for everyone.
By focusing on accessibility and clear communication, the government can help unlock the potential of a significant portion of the population that is currently excluded from many aspects of public life.
Supporters are being encouraged to contact their local candidates to ensure that neurodiversity remains a priority on the political agenda.
The initiative also seeks to empower autistic people to share their lived experiences directly with decision-makers, ensuring that future policies are grounded in the reality of those they are intended to serve.
