Autism support and campaigning with The Autism Manifesto

Working for change in society, supporting autism & neurodiversity

The Autism Info Center was set up by autistic author and care worker, Peter J Clark, to help educate society about autism and neurodiversity, and to campaign in every area of life - from home, education, healthcare, work, leisure and communities through to governments, welfare systems, and legal systems - for greater awareness, understanding, acceptance, reasonable accommodations, inclusive practices and spaces, equitable treatment, and the adoption of diversity as a beneficial driver of growth, change, and innovation.

Our manifesto for change throughout society

To aid our work toward autism support and neurodiversity campaigning, we have created The Autism Manifesto, which is a practical and educational tool for friends and families of autistic and neurodiverse people, for the general public, for employers and authorities, for education establishments, for health and care workers and organisations, and for governments in every country, worldwide.

The Autism Manifesto lays out 10 Pillars for Change covering every area of life, including detailed explanations of the challenges that neurodiverse people commonly face, how those problems negatively affect those people and society as a whole. Each Pillar is a series of Manifesto Principles in the form of practical calls for action - not just from you and me but from business, educational establishment, healthcare providers, care and support workers, charities, local authorities, law enforcement and legal systems, regulatory bodies, and governments. Each principle comes with real-life examples of the challenges and the solutions we're campaigning for. Adding your voice to ours will be the single greatest thing you can do to support neurodiverse people everywhere!

Our supportive work and campaigning activities

Every day we are out there in the real world, armed with our manifesto and actively working and campaigning in four key areas:

  1. Better Autistic Lives This is the core of our daily work. We consult with autistic and neurodivergent people to identify their key challenges, then we use that knowledge to create resources, practical tools, and educational materials that directly address those issues. Our goal is to empower people to live a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life. We work with families, care workers, and support staff (and their organisations) to make sure the right information and guidance is available to everyone, and to make sure people are getting the support they need to thrive.
  2. Public Education Through a variety of channels (including our website, public campaigns, newspaper and magazine coverage, social media, and online workshops and courses) we are dedicated to teaching the general public about what autism and neurodiversity really are. We work to dispel common myths, combat stereotypes, and promote a better understanding of neurodivergent people and their behaviour, challenges, needs, unique skills and ultimately, their value to society. We help people see neurodiversity as a natural and valuable part of human variation, rather than being a deficit or disorder. We provide the tools and information necessary for people to become allies and advocates in their own communities and organisations.
  3. Global Campaigning The Autism Info Center is a truly global resource, not at all limited to its home country (the UK), and we actively campaign for change on an international scale. We seek to engage with governments, authorities, education and healthcare providers, businesses, and non-profit organisations in every country to advocate for policies and practices that support neurodivergent people. Our goal is to encourage a worldwide shift towards a more inclusive and equitable society. We believe that by working together across borders, we can make a difference in the lives of millions of people.
  4. Family Support We offer practical guidance and support for families and friends of autistic or neurodivergent people. Our goal is to provide a clear, simple summary of the key challenges and benefits of neurodiversity, to help family and friends understand how they can best support their loved ones and create a positive, accepting environment at home and in their community. We also help families navigate complex systems like healthcare and education, providing them with the resources they need to become stronger advocates for their family member.

If you would like to support us, there are three ways...

  1. Add your voice to ours with The Autism Manifesto Get your copy of The Autism Manifesto and start having informed conversations with others about autism and neurodiversity. Spread some awareness and education. A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step!
  2. Change your own world, one conversation at a time In your workplace, school, college, university, social or sports clubs, in your religious institution, in pubs and shops, start advocating for 'reasonable adjustments' and accommodations for autistic and neurodiverse people to help make their lives easier, happier, better integrated into their community, and to help society benefit from their unique talents and viewpoints.
  3. Donations are very welcome - no matter how small or large! We don't ask for money for our life-changing support and campaigning activities, but if you feel you'd like to donate anything at all (even just the equivalent of a coffee at your local cafe!) you can do so through PayPal at this web link (and no, you don't have to have a PayPal account!)... www.AutismInfoCenter.org/donate

Thank you for taking the time to find out what we do, and how we do it, and very special thanks if you've chosen to work alongside us or support us financially!
