President Trump has issued a new executive order titled Addressing DEI Discrimination by Federal Contractors, which aims to regulate diversity, equity, and inclusion activities within government procurement.
The order requires federal agencies to include mandatory language in contracts that prohibits what the administration describes as racially discriminatory DEI activities.
This move is part of a broader effort to combat certain DEI practices that the administration believes lead to disparate treatment based on race or ethnicity.
Contractors and subcontractors are now required to ensure that race and ethnicity are not factors in their hiring, employment, or program participation.
Failure to comply with these new regulations could lead to severe consequences, including contract termination or debarment from future government work.
The order also mandates that contractors provide access to records and reports to verify their compliance.
This policy shift represents a significant change for many organisations that have established DEI programs and highlights the ongoing debate surrounding the role of such initiatives in the workplace.
The order is expected to be implemented across all federal agencies within the next thirty days.
