Requesting Copyright Permission

If you'd like to make use of text or images from something we've published, we're usually happy to oblige! Although everything we publish is copyrighted material, you can use this page to ask for permission to use some of it as long as it's not being sold or exchanged for value.

For example, you might use some of our materials for your personal blog, or for a free group newsletter, or in an educational setting, or as part of your own personal research, education or professional development. Please do take a look at our full Copyright Terms and Conditions at the end of this page so you know what's okay to use. Thanks!

Copyright Terms and Conditions

If you'd like to make use of text or images from something we've published, we're usually happy to oblige! So let's quickly run through what you can use and what you can't use, and how and when you can use our materials...

Fair usage in international copyright law

International copyright law has a principle called 'fair use', in which you are free to quote small passages or excerpts without requesting permission first, providing you don't use more than 25% of the original text, or more than 30 seconds of the original playable media. Please play fair - we put a lot of time and work into what we publish!

The rules you're agreeing to follow...

Simply put, everything we produce and publish is copyrighted material, but the various texts from this web site can usually be used or quoted for free, as long as:

1.

You're not using any of our materials, in whole or in part, without express written permission (e.g. by email) from us before publishing;

2.

It's not for profit, for sale, for pay, or to earn money or in exchange for anything of value;

3.

It's not for mass publication or distribution (whether that's online, offline, on social media, on the web, email, digital files or formats, public archives, newsletters, magazines, or in print);

4.

It's for personal, private, or restricted, and not public usage (for example for your own personal blog, in a private group, or in an educational setting, or as part of your own personal research, education or professional development);

5.

You clearly credit whatever you use to The Autism Info Center and link back to our web site (www.AutismInfoCenter.org) in the same place as the materials you use, not just in your 'small print' or page footer;

6.

You ask us first (using the Usage Request page on our web site) to tell us know how, where, and when you want to use or quote our materials, then wait for our permission by email before using the materials;

7.

It's rare, and only when there's reasonable evidence of breaking our terms and conditions, that we may at any time and for any reason withdraw our consent for you to continue using our materials, at which time you would be notified by us in writing (e.g. by email) and you agree to remove the materials in question from your own (or your organisation's) works immediately.

If you agree to these terms and conditions, we're usually happy for you or your organisation to use or quote up to six of our materials each year. Note that we are required to keep records of copyright requests for our own legal protection, but these are only held for as long as strictly necessary before being securely destroyed when they're no longer needed.
