Neuroscientist claims television programme completely misrepresented scientific views

A leading cognitive neuroscientist has publicly withdrawn her support for a highly controversial television documentary, claiming the programme was heavily biased and deliberately misrepresented her scientific views.

The broadcast sought to question whether specific neurodevelopmental conditions are genuine medical disorders or merely social constructs.

The expert contributor stated that her comments were severely truncated and presented completely out of context to fit a predetermined narrative that invalidates the lived experiences of neurodivergent people.

She warned that biased media portrayals are deeply irresponsible and could lead to dangerous consequences, including encouraging parents to remove their children from necessary medical treatments.

The television network defended the programme, arguing it aimed to explore different ideas and test conventional thinking regarding diagnostic procedures and the ethics of medication.

However, major professional psychiatric colleges and leading charities have strongly criticised the broadcast for increasing public stigma and dismissing established scientific evidence.

A massive survey conducted by a national charity revealed that a huge majority of respondents felt the documentary was entirely unfair and promoted minority sceptical views as mainstream facts, causing significant distress within the community.
