USA alert system launched for missing autistic people
Government initiative aims to prevent tragic accidental deaths

A groundbreaking national alert initiative has been officially launched to help locate missing and endangered autistic people.
The new federal programme brings together emergency management agencies, law enforcement, and community partners to radically improve coordination and response times when a vulnerable person goes missing.
The initiative is specifically designed to address the leading causes of preventable injury and death among autistic people, including the very high risk of accidental drowning linked to wandering behaviours.
When an autistic child or adult wanders away from safe environments, every single minute is absolutely critical for their survival.
The comprehensive plan establishes a national framework of best practices to ensure that first responders are properly trained to act quickly and effectively during these highly sensitive emergencies.
Government officials emphasise that protecting vulnerable citizens is a core responsibility, and this initiative represents a major step forward in safeguarding the neurodivergent community.
The programme also includes new toolkits for healthcare providers and advanced screening recommendations to improve overall safety and support across all stages of life.
Families are welcoming the new measures as a vital lifeline to help bring their loved ones home safely.
