Record numbers of children require special educational support
Rising figures highlight immense pressure on school resources

Newly released government data has revealed a staggering record number of children in the country are now formally identified as having special educational needs, exposing the immense strain on the current education system.
The statistics show a massive five percent increase from the previous year, with millions of pupils now requiring additional support to navigate their schooling.
Most alarmingly, the number of children requiring complex, legally binding care plans has surged dramatically, representing a figure more than double that recorded a decade ago.
The data highlights a deeply concerning intersection between neurodivergence and socio economic disadvantage, noting that children requiring special support are significantly more likely to be eligible for free school meals compared to their peers.
Educational authorities acknowledge the scale of the challenge, citing severe systemic pressures and chronic underfunding as primary drivers of the crisis.
While government officials point to upcoming planned reforms and financial investments designed to build capacity within mainstream schools, desperate parents and overwhelmed teachers warn that immediate emergency action is necessary to prevent the complete collapse of inclusive education and to safeguard the futures of neurodivergent youth.
