New independent group formed to protect autism science

Research leaders unite to ensure evidence based progress continues

A coalition of prominent autism research and advocacy leaders has announced the formation of the Independent Autism Coordinating Committee to safeguard scientific rigor in the field.

This new group was established to fulfill the objectives of the Autism CARES Act by developing a coordinated scientific agenda that reflects rapid progress in the translational continuum.

The move comes as a response to recent changes in federal advisory bodies that have seen the inclusion of members who promote narratives not supported by scientific evidence.

The independent consortium aims to act as a credible source for the public and policymakers, ensuring that research focus remains on genes, cells, environmental factors, and early detection.

By maintaining an independent agenda, the committee intends to respond quickly to any recommendations that do not align with established evidence-based science.

This initiative brings together accomplished experts and stakeholders who are dedicated to improving care and accelerating discovery for the benefit of the autistic community.

The goal is to ensure that institutional memory and scientific expertise continue to guide the national strategy for autism research.
