The Australian Government has held the first meeting of the National Autism Strategy Reference Group to guide the development of future policies.
Co-chaired by advocates with lived experience, the group includes community representatives and professionals who ensure that the voices of autistic people are at the heart of decision-making.
The strategy aims to improve outcomes across health, education, and employment over the next several years.
Members of the reference group will help to implement and evaluate action plans that address the specific needs of the autism community.
This collaborative approach is intended to create a more inclusive society where neurodivergent individuals have equal access to opportunities and support.
The government has emphasized the importance of consulting with peak bodies and diverse cohorts to reflect the true experiences of the population.
By focusing on evidence-based strategies and lived expertise, Australia is seeking to lead the way in national disability reform.
The work of the group will be critical in shaping how services are delivered and how the community understands neurodiversity in the coming decade.
Future meetings will focus on the practical application of these reforms to ensure they reach every part of the country.
