The Miranda Family Fund has announced a significant grant to support the public launch of a theatre program for autistic adolescents in Philadelphia.

Led by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the fund is partnering with the A.J.

Drexel Autism Institute at Drexel University to bring this evidence-based initiative to the wider community.

The Socio-Dramatic Affective Relational Intervention (SDARI) was developed by Dr Matthew Lerner.

It utilizes the power of improvisational theatre to help participants develop social confidence and meaningful connections.

While previously restricted to research settings, this new funding ensures the model is accessible to more families outside of the academic sector.

Refined over two decades, the SDARI approach provides a neurodiversity-affirming environment where differences are celebrated.

The program aims to create a fun, engaging space that assists people in building social-emotional competence through performance.

Dr Lerner noted that many families seek programs that allow teens to explore their identities while building social capacities.

This grant will enable the full launch of the program, helping autistic youth achieve personal growth and lasting friendships through the arts.

The initiative reflects a commitment to creating sustainable, community-facing opportunities for the neurodivergent community.
